Illumination (formerly Illumination Entertainment) is an American animation studio founded by Chris Meledandri in 2007 and part of Universal Pictures/Comcast. The studio produces family‑oriented, character‑driven animated feature films — including the Despicable Me/Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, Sing, and The Grinch franchises — known for broad international appeal and strong box‑office performance. It also drives extensive merchandising, licensing and theme‑park integrations and collaborates with production partners such as Illumination Mac Guff. Illumination focuses on accessible, humor‑led storytelling and iconic characters across films, shorts and brand extensions.
