UMS advances teaching, research, and public service with a focus on workforce development, applied research (e.g., marine science, forestry, engineering, health), and community engagement that support Maine’s economy and communities. The system office coordinates governance, tuition and financial aid, statewide initiatives, online learning, and partnerships with industry and K–12 education to expand access and drive regional innovation.
