Certified Surgical First Assistant

The Certified Surgical First Assistant is a member of the Surgical Team in the Surgical Suite who works with the Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Certified Surgical Technologist, and Registered Nurse to deliver direct patient care before, during and after surgery. The role involves utilizing appropriate physician preference cards, preparing room supplies, assisting with patient positioning and draping, and maintaining aseptic technique. The position requires performing correct counts, anticipating instrument needs, and assisting in the maintenance of instruments and supplies. The Certified Surgical First Assistant also demonstrates involvement in unit activities, supports new employee orientation, and maintains a neat, safe, and clean environment.
