About this role

The Consultant, India will support the Solutions Journalism Network’s strategy in India by helping expand solutions-focused climate reporting and strengthening local journalism ecosystems. The role centers on growing solutions journalism about climate impacts and responses for Indian audiences, particularly in local languages, through programs, partnerships, and resources. Over two years, the consultant will help launch and refine initiatives with institutional partners, building sustainable communities of practice. The contractor must be based in India and work closely with SJN’s global teams to align local efforts with broader organizational goals.

It trains journalists and educators, publishes toolkits and guides, and runs topic-focused programs (climate, democracy, youth mental health, health disparities, Africa initiative, and more) plus initiatives like Beacons, educator academies, student media challenges, and university hubs. SJN also maintains resources for newsrooms and the public, including a Solutions Story Tracker, a directory of practitioners, and a global network of trainers and partners. Its work emphasizes ethics, accountability, and learning from both successes and failures to rebalance news coverage toward solutions.
