STR is seeking an Embedded Systems Emulation Engineer to architect and develop software tools that emulate complex cyber-physical platforms for national security analysis. The role involves extending emulation frameworks like QEMU, rehosting undocumented firmware, and creating virtual device models to simulate real-world hardware behavior. Position holders will collaborate with researchers to enable reverse engineering and experimentation across diverse system architectures.

Responsibilities

Architect and develop modular software applications for emulating cyber-physical systems
Extend emulation frameworks in C/C++ and Python to support new targets
Rehost unknown firmware by analyzing binaries and identifying hardware dependencies
Develop digital models and virtual device models for system simulations
Validate model quality through unit-level and system-level testing against measured data
