NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is a political and military alliance of 32 countries from Europe and North America formed to provide collective defence for its members. Its core mission is to defend member countries and their roughly one billion citizens through deterrence and defence, crisis management, and cooperative security. NATO combines political consultation with joint military operations, capability development, exercises, and partnerships to address traditional and emerging threats such as terrorism, cyber and hybrid warfare. It also promotes interoperability, burden-sharing and coordination with partner countries and international organizations.
