The Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt (DPMA) is the German federal authority and competence center for industrial property rights, responsible for granting, registering and administering patents, trademarks, designs and utility models. Organisationally subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, the DPMA operates from offices in Munich, Jena and Berlin and maintains public search and information services such as DEPATISnet and the DPMAregister. It provides examination, publication and online tools to help inventors, SMEs, industry and research institutions protect and enforce their intellectual property, and supports international procedures (PCT, Madrid, Hague).
