About this role

Element451 is seeking its first in-house attorney to serve as a generalist commercial counsel, primarily focusing on the end-to-end negotiation of customer contracts, MSAs, and DPAs. This role acts as the first point of contact for a wide range of legal questions, including data privacy, insurance, and employment matters, while coordinating with outside counsel for specialized needs. The position reports to the CFO and supports the company's growth by managing legal risk and ensuring compliance across its SaaS operations.

Responsibilities

Draft and negotiate customer MSAs, DPAs, and amendments with higher-ed institutions
Manage data privacy and compliance including FERPA, GDPR, and state student-data laws
Oversee insurance renewals, public records requests, and employment law advisory

Skills

Qualifications

J.D.active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state
