About this role

The Lead Software Engineer in the Emerging Technology group at Caterpillar will design, build, pilot, and scale next‑generation software solutions that apply emerging technologies to high‑value business problems. This hands‑on technical leader will guide architecture, development, testing, and production readiness while mentoring engineers and collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, development and testing of modern software solutions
Evaluate and prototype emerging technologies such as generative AI and retrieval‑augmented generation
Translate business opportunities into scalable software designs and technical roadmaps
Mentor engineers and provide technical direction across the development lifecycle
Collaborate with product, data, security and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, production‑ready capabilities
