About this role

The Peer Support Specialist assists clients in community and residential settings by providing emotional, informational, and affiliation supports to aid in their recovery from substance abuse, mental health, or co-occurring disorders. This role involves facilitating groups, coordinating care with a multi-disciplinary team, and helping clients regain independence and integrate into community supports. The specialist serves as a role model for personal recovery and advocates for clients to overcome psychosocial barriers.

Responsibilities

Facilitate peer-led groups and wellness sessions to teach coping skills and recovery strategies
Coordinate care using Critical Time Intervention methods and connect clients to community resources
Assist clients in achieving self-directed recovery, vocational goals, and independent housing

Skills

Qualifications

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, one of the Behavioral Sciences, or related fieldCPR and First Aid CertificationValid State Driver’s LicenseCertification from a not-for-profit entity engaged in peer support specialist trainingCertification from the International Peer Examination from the State of Texas
