Plant Breeder – Irrigated Region

The South African Sugarcane Research Institute is seeking a Plant Breeder to lead its irrigated breeding programme from the Pongola Research Station. This hands-on, field-based role involves managing selection activities, variety trials, and seedcane bulking for sugarcane varieties grown across South Africa and licensed to sub-Saharan Africa. The position requires supervising the local team, collaborating with growers and colleagues, and managing project budgets to advance high-yielding, pest-resistant sugarcane varieties.
