Public Defender

The Public Defender provides legal representation to criminal defendants in Northumberland County throughout various stages of the criminal process, from preliminary hearings to higher court appeals. The role involves preparing for and attending court hearings, conducting legal research, and preparing motions and briefs for various courts. The position also requires negotiating pleas, communicating with clients and the District Attorney's Office, and coordinating with expert witnesses and other departments.
