Public Safety Officer - In Training

The Public Safety Officer - In Training is a non-sworn, temporary classification for individuals attending police and fire academies to prepare for dual police and fire duties. Upon successful completion of the police academy, incumbents are promoted to the sworn Public Safety Officer I classification, and subsequently to Public Safety Officer II after completing all required training. This role involves learning to perform a wide range of public safety work, including law enforcement, crime prevention, fire suppression, rescue, and basic life support activities.
