The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the U.S. federal public health agency responsible for protecting Americans from health, safety, and security threats at home and abroad. It conducts disease surveillance and research, issues guidance on prevention and control (including vaccination, infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and environmental hazards), and leads outbreak response and public health preparedness. CDC provides data, guidelines, educational resources, and tools for health professionals, policymakers, and the public, and partners with state, local, tribal, territorial, and international organizations to detect and respond to health threats. The agency emphasizes evidence-based policy, science communication, and equitable access to health services.
