CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) is one of the world’s largest centres for fundamental physics, operating major accelerator complexes — most famously the Large Hadron Collider — to study the basic constituents of matter and the forces that shape the Universe. It designs, builds and runs particle accelerators and detectors, analyses vast data sets, and produces landmark scientific results (for example the discovery of the Higgs boson).
