The Student Extern serves as an adjunct to the patient care team, providing direct patient care under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role allows students to apply skills learned in their nursing program clinical sections while adhering to established protocols. Newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants until cleared by a supervisor to perform at their appropriate skill level.
