U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security tasked with protecting the United States from cross‑border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety. ICE enforces more than 400 federal statutes through two main components — Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), which handles immigration enforcement and removals, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which investigates transnational crime such as human trafficking, smuggling, cybercrime, financial crimes, and intellectual property theft. The agency partners with federal, state, local, tribal, and international authorities to dismantle criminal networks, secure borders, and manage detention and removal operations. ICE also provides resources and public information on investigative priorities, victim assistance, and immigration procedures.
