The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, operating a network of museums and galleries, the National Zoo, research centers, libraries, and public programs. It preserves and exhibits millions of artifacts and specimens, produces rotating exhibitions and educational programming, and supports scientific research across the arts, history, and natural sciences. The Institution provides extensive online resources and visitor services—many museums offer free admission—serving scholars, educators, students, and the general public.
