About this role

A Protein Engineer will lead directed evolution and screening pipelines for high-affinity ion coordination proteins within the AFRL Biological Materials and Processing Research Team. This role involves generating diverse protein libraries, developing high-throughput screening assays, and bridging computational design with wet-lab operations to isolate Rare Earth Element binding variants. The candidate will support the scale-up of protein production for pilot-scale commercial applications in unmanned aircraft and tactical systems.

Responsibilities

Generate diverse protein and peptide libraries using advanced molecular biology techniques
Develop and execute robust automated high-throughput screening assays for Rare Earth Element binding
Translate computational protein designs into physical high-diversity library constructs
Analyze screening data to define sequence-activity relationships for iterative design
Optimize assay conditions and support scale-up of protein production to pilot levels
