Title: Software Developer: Java/Calypso/AWS Location: New York, NY Employment type: Full time

Company

Federal Reserve Bank of New York

This developer role will be responsible for developing Calypso custom extensions and working on integrations to Calypso, as part of the Post Trade & Custody stream for Markets Transformation, which is replacing OPICS with Calypso.

When you join the Federal Reserve—the nation's central bank—you’ll play a key role, collaborating with leading tech professionals to strengthen and protect our economic, financial and payments systems. We invest in contemporary and emerging technology each year to support the Federal Reserve and our economy, and we’re building a dynamic and diverse team for our future.

The Central Bank Services portfolio provides mission-critical technology capabilities that enable the Federal Reserve's core central banking functions: Markets operations, Credit Risk Management (CRM), and Reserves and liquidity services. These capabilities are foundational to monetary policy implementation, financial stability, effective policy transmission and the safe and efficient functioning of U.S. financial markets and the broader financial system.

Key Activities:

  • Design and develop microservices using Java and Spring Boot that integrate with Calypso through its APIs, interfaces, and messaging channels.
  • Build and maintain Kafka-based messaging/streaming pipelines to support real-time data exchange between Calypso and upstream/downstream systems.
  • Architect and implement the integration layer sitting outside of Calypso, ensuring loose coupling, scalability, and resiliency of integration components.
  • Deploy, manage, and optimize integration services within an AWS cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with Calypso platform teams, architects, and business analysts to define integration contracts, data flows, and error-handling strategies.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and troubleshooting of production issues related to Calypso integrations.
  • Support testing phases (unit, integration, UAT) and help define Day-2 support processes for the integration layer.
  • Document technical designs, data flows, and integration patterns for knowledge transfer and audit purposes.

Requirements:

  • Java / Spring Boot: Strong hands-on experience building microservices using Java and Spring Boot is required.
  • Kafka: Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Kafka-based messaging/streaming solutions for real-time data integration.
  • AWS: Practical experience deploying and managing microservices in an AWS cloud environment (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, or related services).
  • Integration Architecture: Experience designing integration layers/middleware that interact with large enterprise platforms via APIs, messaging, or file-based interfaces.
  • Calypso Exposure (Nice to Have): Prior experience with Calypso, including familiarity with its APIs, data model, or custom extensions, is a plus but not required.
  • Financial Systems Background: Prior experience in capital markets, treasury, or post-trade/custody systems is strongly preferred.
  • Eligibility: Must be eligible to obtain FOMC access; this is a full-time position only (not open to contractors or part-time engagements).
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced transformation program.

Salary:

  • $160,000 - $210,000
