Smithfarms Coffee
The Grounds & Live Exhibits Manager oversees the maintenance of California native plant gardens and animal exhibits at the Oakland Museum of California. This role involves managing irrigation systems, caring for live animals including marine species, supervising staff, and developing operational procedures for museum grounds. The position requires balancing horticultural expertise with animal care responsibilities while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Smithfarms is a small, family-operated 5-acre farm located on the slopes of Mauna Loa in South Kona, Hawaii, specializing in growing and selling 100% pure Kona coffee. Bob and Cea Smith hand-farm their land without machinery, hand-picking only ripe coffee cherries and wet-processing them using fresh volcanic aquifer water. Their heirloom Coffea arabica trees, many over 130 years old, are grown sustainably without chemical insecticides, and their coffee is sold directly to consumers.
