Committee for Public Counsel Services
The Public Defender Division (PDD) of CPCS is offering summer internship positions across Massachusetts for law, graduate, and undergraduate students. Interns will work alongside attorneys and advocates to provide legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients in criminal cases, gaining hands-on experience in legal research, court proceedings, and client interviews.
The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is Massachusetts’ state public defender agency that provides legal representation to low‑income people in criminal, juvenile, civil commitment, and appellate matters. CPCS supports a statewide network of public defenders and private panel attorneys and provides training, litigation support, and specialty units (such as youth and mental‑health defense) to ensure effective, constitutionally compliant representation. Through oversight, policy advocacy, and community partnerships, CPCS works to expand access to justice and improve the quality of indigent defense across the Commonwealth.
