The Heritage Foundation is a Washington, D.C.–based research and educational institution (think tank) founded in 1973 that develops and promotes conservative public policies. It advances principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual liberty, traditional American values, and a strong national defense through research, policy papers, and public advocacy. Heritage publishes studies, issue briefs, and recommendations aimed at lawmakers, the media, and the public to shape legislation and public debate. The organization is influential in conservative policymaking and runs events and programs to educate and train policymakers and activists.
