About this role

Calico is seeking a Senior/Staff Cloud Engineer to lead the execution and operation of its next-generation machine learning platform. As the technical authority for the Google Cloud Platform environment, the role involves building infrastructure-as-code, designing secure perimeters, and automating identity management to support frontier bioML research. The engineer will act as a critical bridge, enabling ML Systems and Research teams to train and deploy models while enforcing rigorous security and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

Lead the consolidation and modernization of compute environments for ML workloads
Design and maintain robust GKE clusters for distributed training and batch processing
Build automated guardrails and secure perimeters using Terraform for sensitive data
Manage org-level GPU/TPU capacity and implement centralized billing and cost reporting
Design intuitive onboarding processes and paved paths for scientist users
