MongoDB is a general-purpose, document-oriented database platform that uses a flexible, JSON-like data model (BSON) to help developers build modern applications. It’s available as self-managed software and as MongoDB Atlas, a fully managed cloud database service offering global clusters, automated scaling, backups, and enterprise-grade security. The platform delivers ACID transactions, a rich query and aggregation framework, full-text and vector search, change streams, mobile sync, and integrated tools for app services, analytics, and visualization. Widely adopted by startups and enterprises, MongoDB positions itself as an AI-ready database to accelerate time-to-market for data-driven applications.
