The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that defends and expands the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Using strategic litigation, legislative advocacy, public education, and grassroots organizing, the ACLU works on issues such as free speech, privacy, racial and immigrant justice, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, voting rights, and criminal justice reform. A nationwide network of staff, volunteers, and state affiliates brings lawsuits and policy campaigns to challenge government abuses and broaden civil liberties, funded largely by members, donors, and grants.
