CJA (the New York City Criminal Justice Agency) works to reduce unnecessary pretrial detention in New York City by providing court-based services, Release Assessments, bail assistance, and supervised release programs across all five boroughs. It pairs direct client supports and community outreach — including trauma-informed services and specialized initiatives for veterans — with expert research and interactive data dashboards to track pretrial outcomes and inform policy. CJA partners with courts, community organizations, and policymakers to design and operate evidence-driven alternatives to detention that promote public safety and help people remain connected to community supports while their cases proceed.
