Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre
The Alternative Secondary School Program Support Worker assists in coordinating, delivering, and administering the Alternative Secondary School Program, providing educational activities and services to youth, particularly urban Indigenous students, to help them achieve their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The role works in partnership with the Lakehead District School Board and other stakeholders using a strengths‑based, trauma‑informed approach.
Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (TBIFC) is one of the original six Friendship Centres in Ontario and a founding member of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC). Based in Thunder Bay, it provides culturally grounded, client-centred supports across the life journey—helping Indigenous individuals and families access wellness, youth and family programming, employment/training, and community outreach. The centre promotes Indigenous culture, advocacy and connection to local services, aiming to improve social well‑being and access to supports for urban Indigenous populations. TBIFC works with partners and funders to deliver culturally safe programs tailored to community needs.
