GGR-Peat
The role involves designing, building, and maintaining research-grade instruments and bespoke experimental systems for environmental science projects. Working in a hands‑on workshop, the technician will produce precision‑machined components, assemble electro‑mechanical devices, and provide field support for remote deployments. The position requires collaboration with scientists and a focus on delivering reliable, field‑ready solutions.
GGR-Peat is a UKRI-funded demonstrator project focused on restoring degraded UK peatlands to function as effective long-term greenhouse gas removal (GGR) systems through accelerated peat formation. The project develops and tests innovative land-management practices — including high water level management, Sphagnum re-establishment, and biochar application — to convert peatlands from major GHG emission sources into carbon sinks. It also quantifies environmental, social, and economic benefits, and develops pathways for scaling sustainable peatland restoration across the UK.
