GGR-Peat
The Experimental Ecotoxicologist role involves supporting aquatic bioassays and ecotoxicology studies to investigate the impacts of PFAS and other environmental pollutants on organisms. The position requires strong practical laboratory skills, experience in organism culture and maintenance, and a keen interest in environmental science. This is a 12-month maternity cover contract based in Wallingford.
GGR-Peat is a UKRI-funded demonstrator project focused on restoring degraded UK peatlands to function as effective long-term greenhouse gas removal (GGR) systems through accelerated peat formation. The project develops and tests innovative land-management practices — including high water level management, Sphagnum re-establishment, and biochar application — to convert peatlands from major GHG emission sources into carbon sinks. It also quantifies environmental, social, and economic benefits, and develops pathways for scaling sustainable peatland restoration across the UK.
