The Farmer-in-Training (FIT) role is part of Fort Lewis College’s Farmer Training Program, a seasonal, hands-on experience focused on vegetable farming at high elevation alongside educational coursework and regional farm field trips. Participants join a cohort-based program designed to support aspiring and beginning farmers, with an optional AmeriCorps service term that includes additional food security-related service. The program runs primarily May through October, with AmeriCorps terms extending through mid-November.
