GGR-Peat
The role involves leading and developing the Stable Isotope Facility within UKCEH's Analytical Chemistry team, driving innovative stable isotope methods, securing research funding, and managing laboratory operations and staff. The successful candidate will work across multidisciplinary environmental projects, contributing high‑impact scientific outputs and expanding the facility’s profile and applications.
GGR-Peat is a UKRI-funded demonstrator project focused on restoring degraded UK peatlands to function as effective long-term greenhouse gas removal (GGR) systems through accelerated peat formation. The project develops and tests innovative land-management practices — including high water level management, Sphagnum re-establishment, and biochar application — to convert peatlands from major GHG emission sources into carbon sinks. It also quantifies environmental, social, and economic benefits, and develops pathways for scaling sustainable peatland restoration across the UK.
