Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre
A Transitional Housing Outreach Worker supports urban Indigenous individuals experiencing homelessness by providing one-to-one services and helping them navigate adult service systems. The role utilizes a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and partnering programs. Workers must effectively engage clients to build trust, manage cases, and intervene in crisis situations while adhering to flexible scheduling requirements.
Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (TBIFC) is one of the original six Friendship Centres in Ontario and a founding member of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC). Based in Thunder Bay, it provides culturally grounded, client-centred supports across the life journey—helping Indigenous individuals and families access wellness, youth and family programming, employment/training, and community outreach. The centre promotes Indigenous culture, advocacy and connection to local services, aiming to improve social well‑being and access to supports for urban Indigenous populations. TBIFC works with partners and funders to deliver culturally safe programs tailored to community needs.
